In reply to your letter off/out October regarding your claim in respect of property lost or damaged in Hong Kong as a result of the war, I am directed by Mr. Secretary eroth to refer to the statement issued by the Government of Hong Kong, (a copy of which is enclosed).

I am to add that in order to meet the difficulties of United Kingdom British subjects who were in captivity in the Far East and who on release returned to live permanently in this country there is a scheme under which limited grants may be made to enable such persons to purchase necessary furniture, household goods etc. A statement is enclosed setting out the circumstances in which application for grants under this scheme may be considered.
